I made the thing. I make 2 or 3 "totems" every week. I set them on the beach or in the trees at Cherie Down Park in Cape Canaveral. I've been doing this for many years, and not just in the Cape. There are a few comedic stories around these totems that I feel need sharing; funny stories. I'll do that later, in another post. The voodoo thing needs addressing now.
First, there's nothing organic about the teeth. They're acrylic. Amazon or Ebay; I got them at one or the other. I drilled small holes in the teeth, enough to insert a small length of paperclip for stability; and glued the teeth in place. The skin is real snakeskin. Again, another Amazon purchase. Two coconuts fixed together with a piece of bamboo, and glued. There were originally 8 legs made from what I believe are called: mangrove propagules. Those too were strengthened with paperclips and glue. What some articles called "feathers" were just bits of coconut husk. That's all there was to it.
Most of the art pieces that I leave in trees or on the beach are 100% bio-degradable [except for maybe the glue]. This way, if they fall in the brush or someone throws them in the ocean, it won't matter. It's unfortunate that in this instance I used acrylic teeth and someone decides to toss it in the ocean. Sorry.
My wife happened to be with me the day I put that particular one out. Typically I get up early and display them by myself. I don't hide what I'm doing, I'm pretty sure people have seen me putting them in trees before. At any rate, she took a pic of it while it was still in one piece. I'll remind her to send it to me and I'll post it.
