Friday was the first full day of hiking in my southwest US trip. We had gotten the permit to hike Angel’s Landing, a rugged peak overlooking the Virgin River canyon in the Zion National Park.

The approach is short and steep. It is however paved and therefore easy. The real challenge is the narrow path along the ridge of the mountain. There are chains secured into the soft and slippery sandstone rocks. The drop is 500m over the river and fatal accidents do happen every year.

I am not quite comfortable in such places, but in the end it wasn’t too bad. We made it and enjoyed a great day.
