Royal Steelworks. A museum with my family story. My Actifit Report Card: December 23 2022
Both my Dad and my Grandpa had worked 40 years in “Royal Steelworks” in Chorzow, PL. I broke the family tradition and chose IT instead.
Today I had a very special trip. Together with my Dad, I visited a Steelworks Museum, located in the very place where he had worked.
The exhibition is rather small - I guess I had expected to see more of the real thing. But if you realize that a Open Hearth Furnace is a couple stories high and the Steel Mill is a large building, then the size of the Museum becomes not so disappointing.
When I was a child, my Father didn’t tell me much about his work and I never took interest in the details of steel making. Today's visit was a revelation - my Dad being the expert guide and bringing life to museum tableaus.
Well, I will not drop my comfortable IT job. But I do appreciate the hard work of steel workers and I will look differently on steel constructions that we see every day around us. My father's steelworks specialized in rails and large element used for bridges or high buildings.
