I went for mountains hike today in search for some good winter. I wasn’t disappointed. Had to put on crampons 500m from the parking. A very comfortable temp (around 0°), that made me take off my soft shell jacket on the ascent. A bit of strong wind at our highest point (1310m a.s.l.). First of all - sunny, almost all day. And a long hiking day it was.
My party was a group of four, aged 40-60. Two gals and two lads. We are not runners but we can do long distances in mountains and are not put away by snow or wind. In fact, for us winter is a perfect hiking season. (We don’t do mountaineering on icy steep slopes - we simply hike, with crampons and trekking sticks).
