Warm greetings, friends of #Holos #Lotus! I continue my series on the seven deadly sins, today discussing Gluttony. I hope you enjoy my post. Thanks to all who vote, comment, and more鈥擨鈥檓 deeply grateful for your support.

Eating is one of life鈥檚 greatest pleasures. No one doubts that. I love to eat, and if I really enjoy something, I never get tired of having it again.

But there鈥檚 a difference between eating to meet the body鈥檚 needs and eating excessively, ignoring the consequences.

This insatiable appetite that drives us to consume beyond necessity, beyond pleasure, is what we call gluttony.
It鈥檚 one of humanity鈥檚 most complex missing links. It鈥檚 not just about overeating but a deeper impulse鈥攁 failed attempt to fill a void with food, a void that belongs to another level, the level of the spirit.

Gluttony is a twisted mutation of one of man鈥檚 basic survival needs. I don鈥檛 know if animals also commit this "sin"鈥攖hat would require study鈥攂ut what I do know is that those who practice it are sending a cry for help in this way because they simply don鈥檛 know how to ask for it.

I believe鈥攁nd I say this based on what I learned during my time studying medicine (3rd year)鈥攖hat gluttony is a serious psychological symptom of depression. Those who suffer from it haven鈥檛 found another way to resolve their problems.

It鈥檚 true that after any kind of disappointment, we sometimes turn to food as a cure. But usually, this is temporary.

In religious terms, I learned that gluttony was considered a sin not because of the simple act of eating but because of what it represented: the loss of self-control, the prioritization of fleeting pleasure over temperance, waste in a world of scarcity, and the idolization of the body and its immediate sensations.

Dante, in The Divine Comedy, placed the gluttons in the third circle of hell, punished under an eternal, freezing rain of mud鈥攁 symbol of the heaviness and spiritual misery their vice generates.

Gluttony isn鈥檛 about indulging and satisfying hunger one day at a hotel buffet. Gluttony is a "normal," everyday habit for the "gluttonous."

In this consumerist world, gluttony has multiplied its forms. It鈥檚 compulsive consumption, buying the unnecessary, stockpiling massive amounts of food in the fridge for the false assurance that it will never run out. It鈥檚 the frantic, endless pursuit of "I want more" that is never satisfied because the hunger it tries to soothe isn鈥檛 in the stomach鈥攊t鈥檚 in the mind and soul.

Gluttony is a self-feeding fire, and to overcome it, we must become aware鈥攍earn to distinguish between physical hunger and emotional hunger.

It鈥檚 about savoring each bite calmly, finding pleasure in just the right measure, and recognizing that no food can fill the abyss that only disappears with spiritual peace and connection to oneself and the world.

True satisfaction isn鈥檛 in the quantity devoured but in the pleasure of gratitude for what we have.
