The Golden Mean is a 16 foot tall bronze sculpture by hyperrealist artist Carole A. Feuerman. Completed in 2012 the work depicts a male diver poised just before a back dive.
That diver is holding a perfect handstand in Chicago's Pioneer Court along Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.
鈥婭n art and architecture, the "Golden Mean" (or Golden Ratio, approximately 1.618) is a mathematical proportion that has been used since antiquity to create aesthetically harmonious and "perfectly" balanced compositions. By naming the piece after this principle, the artist draws a connection to classical Greek art and the pursuit of timeless beauty.
The sculpture is in front of the iconic Tribune Tower which was completed in 1925 as the home of the Chicago Tribune newspaper.. Its ornate Neo-Gothic buttresses at the top make it one of the most recognizable historic skyscrapers in the city.
Looking south across the Chicago River, is the London Guarantee Building (now the LondonHouse hotel)
In the distance is Mather Tower (the slender, octagonal tower)
鈥媁hen this thoto was taken there was a makeshift bandage of black duct tape wrapped around the figure's left arm. I doubt it is part of the artists sculpture. Maybe this added addition is what makes it truly 'street art'! 馃槈
