I have been here for almost a week and this is not my first post, but everyone is making a huge deal about introduction posts, so I figured I should get one up here. I do hate talking about myself and when asked to do it, I'm always reminded of my mother anytime she heard me say a name she wasn't familiar with. I would say "Suzie was talking to Fred today and he says the world will be ending in 2 hours" and she would respond with "Who's Fred?" then I would say "Fred is who he sounds like...he's Fred...the guy that says the world is ending. I don't understand what you want from me." I'm sure you've gathered this introduction could be painful for both of us.
So, I am Mel. My birth name is Melissa, but I'm lazy and my full name makes me think I'm in trouble, so I go by Mel. Not Missy, not Melanie and certainly not Martha. Yes, I have somehow been called Martha by more than one person. When not face to face or over the phone, almost all people assume I'm a guy, but I'm good with it because they still call me Mel instead of Melanie or Missy.
