Good day homedders@homedders I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend and continuing the homeschooling and teaching of the youngins. I think COVID has really shined the light on home schooling for me. I have to admit it hasn't been easy, it's literally one of the most challenging things I've ever had to do while trying to work along side homeschooling.

I'm sure as the years go by things will get easier at the moment the challenges surround an 8 month old that requires my utmost attention and a 4 year old that has a heap of energy that she needs to expel.

Days can get quite tiring and exhausting at times and I can really feel old age setting in 😞.

We have a bit or a role reversal at home in regards to home duties and a more equitable approach to living standards. With my wifes profession she is often out of the house alot and this weekend she's headed off to work for a morning shift. Mornings and evenings are always d-day and every parent would know that and today was the first time I've been on my own. No mum in law, no mum no one.

But little miss 4 and I were up for the challenge getting to work to mpless the kitchen! I've spent the past 4 years in the kitchen with little miss. I'm a big fan of cooking and cooking skills, it was one of the skills handed down to me by my grandmother. Might not seem that special but in Australia cooking skills are low with Millennials. Opting for Uber eats and take out rather than nutrition.

This is having drastic impacts on health outcomes of our generation with higher rates of obesity and even type 2 diabetes.

But besides the benefits of learning to cook today's ground 0 battle was greatly supported by little miss who said Dad, I want to help. You change lil bloke and I'll do breakfast I was immediately fearful as my planned easy go to cereal in a box idea that would have saved me effort was now at risk. Lil Miss is the kind of woman that knows what she wants and gets it. I've always taught her to be her own boss and at times it proves challenging. But not today.

From time to time I jumped in to help with a few ingredients as she wasn't too sure how much she needed but the rest of the ingredients I preset aside and left her to construct the batter. I watched from a distance as I changed lil bloke and was amazed at how far lil miss has come in the kitchen. I had to take pictures otherwise mumma bear wouldn't believe me.

I thought I was going to have to chime in and wisk the batter as at times she hasn't had the strength and stamina required to create a smooth consistency. But she had the motion down pat and I was legitimately surprised at her technique.

Lil Miss managed to create a consistent air rated batter that blended all the ingredients and would form a wonderful base for pancakes! And now I knew it was time for me to try and manage both of the lil ones and hit the fry pan. Oh I long for the day that lil miss can do it all on her lonesome. Perhaps I will finally get breakfast in bed!

Lil Bloke was keen to get in on the action and see what all the commotion was about so I set him up in the high chair at a safe distance away from the heat and the frypan with little miss close by as she wanted to get in on the pancake flipping.

We made abit too much for the 3 of us but that's OK there will be some left over for when mumma bear comes home from work and she can have an afternoon snack prepared by lil miss.

Lil miss is a big fan of maple syrum on pancakes, she used to love ice cream but has since ditched the ice cream for maple syrup and I have to watch her closely otherwise she will use the entire bottle on one pancake saving not much for anyone else! Brings a smile to my face watching her become independent, and a relelif as that's one less thing I need to do. But also sad as soon she won't need me for anything!

We sat down for our breakfast Lil Bloke in tow with his own pancake, understanding he is only 8 months old which means I need to be abit more careful and watch him so he doesn't choke. But I'm quite surprised with lil bloke he's been a great eater and at current (fingers crossed) no scary moments.

Lil bloke had to sit between lil miss and I, she wouldn't have it another way.

And there it is, how 4 years of cooking with little miss teaching her some skills in the kitchen has paid off today. I love this kiddo, amazes me each and every day!
