It really depends on how your own personal perspective on this one.
As we move more and more into the future technology will no doubt start to do more and more of the tasks that we currently complete manually. Ovens replaced fires, the engine replaced horsepower and calculators replaced the abacus. This is a simple matter of progress and i doubt very much anything short of a cataclysmic event or the extinction of our species will halt it. Humans have solved problems by creating tools since man first created fire and fashioned a spear tip from stone, it's simply in our nature.
But what does the future hold for us? Well, were already seeing the introduction of driver-less vehicles. These will probably turn driving to and from work into more of a hobby and slowly the skill of driving will start to fade out (thats assuming we have to go to work...but that's a different story. Google "fully automated luxury communism" for more on that)
In the next 20 years or so we will start to see the use of nanotechnology, specifically nano bots injected into the human body to cure things like disease, intolerances, allergies and possibly even counter the natural ageing process (possibly even death but that's yet another story) If some of Googles leading futurists are to be believed 'the law of accelerating returns' means we are not far from being able to digitise ourselves. In other words download and upload ourselves onto computers and possibly even inorganic bodies.
AI will progress to the point where we have machines easily passing the Turing test and with IQs billions of times higher than even the most advanced biological intelligence but this could be countered by technology that could potentially upgrade our own neocortex and connect us all to the wider internet like some kinda freaky hive mind.
So to go back to your original question will we be slaves to technology? No, i don't believe that we will, dependent?possibly and i realize there is a very very fine line between slavery and dependency but although technology will be able to carry out almost all of our tasks for us and may mean that we do not even have to work as we can use emerging technologies like blockchain and cryptocurrency to provide a financial support system for ourselves (were going back to the fully automated luxury communism here again....) my belief is the human race will adapt. It will find new ways to keep itself busy (for want of a better phrase) and it will in it's own way progress side by side with technology.
