Fifty years ago, when I was just a five-year-old boy, Montalb谩n was a much more rural place than it is now. I remember waking up and peeking out of a window to see droves of cattle passing through the streets. I also remember how common it was to see people arriving from the mountains on mules or horses, bringing pack trains of donkeys loaded with their harvests to sell or trade for supplies at the small local stores. Much of this has changed today; it's no longer so common to see cows in the streets or people on horses and mules. However, some of those bucolic scenes can still be seen in the streets, and some of my photographic documentation bears witness to this. But what hasn't changed in half a century is the miracle of being able to leave the town of Montalb谩n and almost immediately find yourself immersed in a charming and captivating rural landscape... These photos, for example, I took just a 20-minute walk from my house, during one of those foggy mornings that seem to accentuate the air of bygone times that I find there...
