Deep in my thoughts one certain day. I kept asking myself, where did it all go wrong? How did it get to this level? And what are we not doing right?
These questions kept bumbling in my mind for hours, but yet, I couldn't provide the answers to it. Still in my state of sobriety, one clear answer struck my mind. And that answer is Love.
This answer has long been forgotten, ignored and if it surfaces, it is misinterpreted in numerous ways to suit all sorts of bias.
The clarity of this answer dawned on me, when I looked at the recent evil happenings around the world and in every sphere of human existence. From the death of African America George Floyd- who was kneeled on his neck by a police officer till he passed out. To the rape of a university student here in Nigeria by name Vera Uwa- who was sexual assaulted inside a church building and later left for dead. And other numerous cases of social vices rippling round the world.
I ask myself why has the love of many grown cold in this day? What happened to the love of humanity? At that moment, it dawned on me that some don't understand the meaning of the word or just feign ignorance to it, since their own interests are not been met.
The Lord Jesus Christ explained to us what the meaning of love in his scared book... according to Mark 12 vs 30-31;
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your mind and with all your strength. The second is this; love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than this
The second verse admonishes us to show the same level of love as we show ourselves to others. And he also tagged it as "the greatest commandment". But the reverse is the case in this era. The proliferation of atrocities towards others, we have been charged to love in equal measure as ourselves is unimaginable. People carry out all sorts of heinous acts, regardless of its consequences on their fellow human beings-assaults, murder, slander, terrorism etc. Friendship don't last anymore, it's either the other feels they have outgrown it or there was an argument or fight. No room anymore for resolution. Relationships now is just for the status. no defined vision as to where is headed. all sorts of tags are attached to relationships now, if you ask, they tell you; no love anymore. Rather resolve there issues, they prefer stacking lists of countless heartbreaks.
In every sphere of human existence, it's one tale of vileness or the other.
This has led many to live their lives in fear of their fellow humans. The level of paranoia consuming many is unquantified.
The word of Lord made us understand in 1John 4 vs 16b;
whoever lives in love lives in God. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear
Which means that the entrance of light of love in our lives erases all forms of fear in our lives. Whenever there is love, there won't be cause to inflict pain in another person life.
There is clarity of the repercussions of this evil acts on our fellow human. And as such we learn to abhor all devices of the enemy that disrupt harmony among us.
We can only activate this long forgotten vaccine called love, by spending time on the bible. Edifying our spirits and praying for the power to practice it and to teach others who aren't aware of it.
God's grace I pray upon us to see us through this trying times.
