One morning, a mobile fish vendor came around. They're selling big tilapia.
As soon as I saw it, I already imagined Inihaw na Tilapia.
It's juicy and flavorful grilled fish... One of my favorites.
But there was one problem... we had no charcoal. But because we had a small trusty multicooker, I thought why not try using it?
Maybe it can do the job. I just wanted to taste the inihaw, so I gave it a go.
Ingredients:
• 1 big tilapia
• 2 medium tomatoes
• 2 small red onions
• 3 cloves garlic
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
• 1 tablespoon soy sauce
• 1 tablespoon cooking oil
Let's cook!
First, I prepared the filling and seasoning. I sliced and chopped the tomatoes, onions, and garlic. Then I added the salt, pepper, and soy sauce, and mixed everything well.
Next, I rubbed a little salt, pepper, and cooking oil all over the fish.
I also stuffed all the mixture inside the tilapia... even into the gill part so the flavor could go deep.
Then, I put salt inside the multicooker and a little oil, and carefully placed the fish in. But because the fish was too big, and the cooker was too small... The tail part stuck out, and I couldn’t fit it all the way. 😂 But still I stayed positive and told myself it would turn out fine.
After a few minutes, the part inside was cooking nicely, so I tilted it and moved it to let the tail cook too.
Once one side looked good, I flipped it over to cook the other side. To be honest, this isn’t really what multicookers are made for. 😂 But I just wanted to try anyway.
Then, as I flipped it again to make sure every part was done… it started to deform! 🤦🏻♀️ The fish looked so kawawa, falling apart and losing its nice shape. I just laughed and kept going until it was fully cooked.
I put it on a plate. Well… it was cooked, no doubt about that. But it didn’t taste like real inihaw at all! There was no smoky grilled flavor, just steamed fish with seasoning. 😅
But what did I really expect? I used a multicooker instead of charcoal. 😂 Still, I’m happy I tried it. It was a fun experiment, and now I know next time, I won’t do it again! 😂
Until my next inihaw...
Thanks for the visit! Have a lovely day. Buh-bye. 💗🌸
