No busques volando inquieta,

Don't look for flying restless
my dark and secret grave.
Swallow, don't you see?
In the poet's grave
there is neither a willow nor a cypress.
Fragment from the poem "To a Swallow" by Juan Clemente Zenea. Source
When you are born and live in a big city where there are innumerable architectural beauties, buildings, monuments and sculptures, you are not able to appreciate their real value. However, when you travel as a tourist to other cities you observe everything in detail with your eyes wide open. It is from that moment that you start to look at your city with another vision and to appreciate what you have always had and had not noticed.
Exactly that is my experience, I have visited other countries that have allowed me to appreciate more our natural and man-made wonders.
But I'll be honest, since I met Hive, I not only look at what is around me but I observe it in detail, to be able to share the curiosities we have. This has also contributed to increase the knowledge about my city, because it invites me to look for truthful information to present to you a work with the quality that our community deserves.
The example I bring you is the Monument to the Cuban poet Juan Clemente Zenea (1832-1871). On countless occasions I have passed by it without looking at it, as if it were a stone in the road. This monument is located at the beginning of El Prado Avenue from Havana's Malecon, a very beautiful place frequented by tourists and locals alike.
On the weekend I was passing by and I stopped in front of this monument of Juan Clemente Zenea to observe and detail it. It is really beautiful, the figure of the poet is made of bronze, he is in a seated and meditative position on a large white marble rock. On one side there is a naked figure of a woman with a lyre symbolizing the poet's romanticism.
On the back of the marble block are engraved some verses of his poem "To a swallow" that I presented at the beginning of this publication. We can notice that in correspondence with these verses, the monument is in full sun, it does not have a willow or a cypress to shelter from.
I invite you to read the complete poem and other very beautiful poems as well HERE.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know this great Cuban poet and his work. If you already knew him, I am sure you will enjoy rereading his poems.
