Maize Challenge 2022: Part 4 - Planting And Spraying
This is an update of my MC2022 following my previous thread which I shared here.
We waited for rain for so long but it chose not to fall. After a few more weeks, it feel a little but didn't enter the soil very well. I still made up my mind to make the planting anyway even though the ground was strong because it was a new farm - planting has not been done there for a long time. Despite the fact there was no rain, grasses was still growing tremendously.
We tried as much as we could anyway but couldn't complete it. I will continue next time probably when a considerable amount of rain falls.
Birds are not helping matters. They keep visiting the farm and feasting on the planted seeds.
I really need to find a way to get rid of them or prevent them from showing up when planting the remaining portion.
I have tried adding more and more seeds to every portion but this is cost demanding. Moreso, they could eat all and leave nothing behind.
For now, you will hardly notice that seeds were planted here because of the grasses. Some areas have grown very well. However, chemicals will bring them down and plants will grow with time.
The next two days, we visited the farm again for spreading of chemicals. If it is not done within two to three days, the seeds will germinate thereby making it difficult to spread the chemicals. That could as well kill the plants in the process.
Below, you can see the photos of where we were mixing chemicals with powder which was used to spray on grasses and which would evenently kill them.

After that, we headed to the farm for the main work
The planted portions have been completely prayed. I will be heading back to the farm in few days or weeks time to see how things will turn out.
