27 days in and I have had an incredible experience with this first 30 Day Whole Life Cleanse. That being said, mistakes were made and some improvements will help on the next one in two months.
1. Too much focus on physical work
I have had a huge list of projects that I have been working on and the list seems to grow more and more every day. The physical labor has been good for me mentally as well as from a fitness standpoint. However, I definitely have become too immersed in them and failed to make time for rest and spiritual development outside of my morning routine. This has resulted in a physical issue where I have pinched a nerve in my neck and shoulder and it’s giving me pins and needles in my hand. Not anything excruciating but annoying nonetheless. It also means I haven’t been able to delve far enough into my own personal spirituality and balance. The next cleanse will need to have a much great focus on rest and spiritual exploration.
2. Not enough time spent with family
This is kind of an outgrowth of #1. My focus on working around the property has taken me away from hanging out with my family. I think I may have also shied away from it because of the food and drink aspect. But Jocelyn and I have been able to manage date nights without some of the usual food and drink. Why shouldn’t I be able to do the same with the kids when we go hang out? Days marked for rest will definitely help out with this as we will be able to do some more family outings with large blocks of time available.
3. Not enough recipes setup ahead of time
I felt like some days Jocelyn and I were searching for recipes to make so we didn’t get tempted to take the easy route and go with something processed. Obstacles like that can be smoothed out ahead of time by building a cleanse cook book. This will also give us the opportunity to try out new recipes we wouldn’t normally have. In addition, we have started our weekly deliveries from the farm so we have tons of fresh fruits and veggies to plan around in the future.
4. I stopped reading as much
Reading was an important component of this cleanse. Especially because social media and digital entertainment was supposed to be little to none. I started out great on this front. I finished a book I had been floundering on for a couple months. I then started the second book and was super jazzed about the topic until I physically lost the book and it took me a few days to find it. I shouldn’t have allowed that excuse to get in the way of my reading but I did. The next cleanse I am going to shoot for a 3 book target.
5. Vitamins weren’t consistently taken
We have an amazing resource in the form of the AO scanner. It uses the vibrations in your body and voice to recommend daily vitamins to take (because you don’t need all of them everyday). I have used the scanner only intermittently and that is a travesty. The scanner needs to become a part of my daily routine when I first wake up, feed the dogs, make tea, grab a snack, and put away the dishes. It should be easy enough to do it at that time of day.
This was always going to be a learning process for me but the first iteration is coming to an end and I can’t wait to start planning for the next.
Day 28 here we come.
