Realizing the dream of a study.

The spare room/ dumping ground/ laundry room has become my stufy. Finally. It has purpose, it has flow, it has pretty things that make me very happy. I could not be more delighted with the outcome.

The room itself has been complete for a little while now - ceiling re plastered, ceiling and walls painted, floor boards painted, new skirting, new ceiling rose, new sockets, new closet doors and rails, door and frame painted. What makes this room an office rather than a bedroom is the desk; I still keep a couple of chests of drawers and a wardrobe in the room, but with a desk and space for a mood board and shelf for storage, the room is most definitely a study for work and ideas.

This is the back of the table top, if you look closely, you can see the pre-drilled holes for a different set of legs. This is the Ikea Linnmon 2 meter white table top.

The legs are Ikea Finnvard. I chose these because they are height adjustable, and have a shelf underneath for extra storage.

I tend to like to make life more difficult for myself and those around me, so I chose the 200 cm x 65 cm top, that does not fit the 75 cm wide Finnvard trestle top, or have pre-drilled holes that fit those legs. I could just rest the top on the legs and hope that it never gets knocked, but who am I kidding? The solution that my rather brilliant husband @costopher came up with was to use wood glue to attach a baton of wood on either side of the leg tops so that they will just slide in and be kept in place to make it safe and secure.

I knew those bottle of wine would come in handy some how! We left the wood glued in place over night and weighted down with wine bottles.

A complete desk!

So, the desk was done, but there was still the gap at the back to deal with. The gap is 15 cm wide, so 2 planks of 12 cm wide pine, screwed together to form an "L" shape fills the gap rather nicely. As a bonus, it also gives me a place to store some of the stationery I use most often.

I have a tendency to use desks as shelves, letting them get covered in crap very quickly. One of the joys of owning your home rather than renting, is being able to put up shelves wherever you like, without having to ask permission or having to stick to free standing units. This is my opportunity to use my very pretty brackets.
