Being an online marketing guru with 5 years marketing experience, she met Harrison, 26 year old man online, who had the same work force like she does. They began exchanging greetings,chit chatting, having conversations that are not business related and gradually their Friendship grew.
The young man, seeing how industrious Beatrice is, proposed to her to be his girlfriend. At first, Beatrice was scared but on the second thought she loved the man's efforts too. Looking like what she needs in her kind of man, she decided to give him a try.
She agreed to his proposal. Their relationship grew, they became intimate, doing video calls. They became lovebirds.The relationship was a secret one as her parents didn't get to know the guy.
Beatrice was losing her mind over this Harrison. Her friends that she told about her new relationship advised her to take things easy with this man but she was already clouded in love.
After months of intimacy, Harrison invited her over to come see him, they booked an appointment, she lied to her parents that her school sent her to a one week internship in Lagos. With fake emails and call letters, she convinced her parents.
She went to Lagos and spent 1 week with the Harrison. As young adults, they had fun without protection.
She came back, very happy that she met her dream man face to face, also scared she might be pregnant, she went for a test and it was negative. She was happy.
After much advice from her friends to avoid visiting Harrison, she paid deaf ears to this advice. After some months of chatting and calling, the young man pleaded with Beatrice to lend him the sum of 500,000 naira that he wants to add up to build a car for his business, Beatrice without thinking twice proudly lent the sum of 500,000 naira to Harrison.
Harrison was so happy, loving her even better. After some months, he invited her to Lagos for the second time.
"I would love you to come to Lagos", he said.
"I will be so glad," Beatrice said.
Beatrice lied to her parents again the second time, and visited again.
Not until the third visit where luck didn't shine on her, they had fun and she eventually became pregnant. After expecting her "monthly visitor" to no avail. She quickly conducted a test and it was positive.
She was devastated and finally summoned courage to call her prince charming boyfriend on the phone.
Harrison after hearing the unexpected news, told Beatrice. "You are in this alone, no one is ready for a child right now". Beatrice, shocked , ended the call. She was depressed,emotionally drained.
She summoned courage to reveal to her parents her fate. Her father embarrassed her by rendering abuses on her publicly which led their neighbors to chip in, many advised her, some scolded her,others mocked her. It was humiliating for her. After all the drama, her father being a tough man, angrily chased her out of the house even after many neighbors pleaded that he should temper justice with mercy.
Being a financially stable lady, she proudly told her father "I have made this mistake once but it doesn't mean I will make it twice. It wasn't intentional,I was only searching for love like every adults of my age would. Maybe I was searching ignorantly but it does not mean I can't take up the responsibility of taking care of my new blood. The humiliation was too much but thanks for being a great dad all these while. I still cherish you but am proudly leaving your house as you instructed. Don't have any reason to worry about me as I will be doing just fine like a single mother living a comfortable life" She packed her things and left her parents house, rented an apartment, carried her child for 9 months, and delivered the baby.
