It's always important to do the right thing at the right time, likewise saying the right thing at the right time. The tongue might be one of the smallest organs in our body but it's capable of turning things around for good or the other way around. There's nothing bad in being an extrovert, but knowing how to tame our tongue is important, because words are more powerful than we might think of, once it is said, it will always spread like fire. When we are not cautious of what we say, it might push us into trouble or the people around us. Some people talk a lot just to kill boredom or to make their surroundings lively but most times, the impression that people have about the way you talk might be different from the way you viewed it.
Most times, when we talk too much, people might think we want to gain attention ourselves and they'll take you less seriously because they see talking as your way of life, even when you're saying things that matter, they'll not take it seriously, That's one of truth about being a talkaholic if there's something like that. But when we talk less, people will want to listen to us whenever we talk, because you're doing something unexpected and they'll feel that you have a great message to pass across.
Have you ever gone out with friends or on a date, and peradventure, you're the one doing all the talking or the other person? As time went on, the person you're talking to might get bored. Yeah, it's something I have experienced, when I come across someone that talks a lot and could not even give me a room to chip in the little thing I want to say, I get bored easily. As a matter of fact, you might not get to know anything about the person because you're the one doing all the talking. So it's important to listen to more in other to learn and know more about the people around us.
When we find it difficult to tame our tongue, we may say things we don't mean to say. That's why it's important to think twice before we talk, when we take some moment to think about the things we want to say, it will help us to talk less. Knowing the right time to talk is one of the practices that is keeping me grounded, I prefer to be silent and use some seconds to meditate on things I want to say before talking, and these are things I check before talking.
- Is my word not going to hurt anyone?
- Is my word not going to Sound stupid?
- Is my word going to yield something good or the other way around.?
That's some of the things I do check before I speak because I know the words we speak are irreversible even when we want to reverse them. Most times when I feel like I don't have any meaningful things to say, I will rather keep quiet. However, there's nothing bad about talking, but we must be cautious, it's not important to say everything that comes to our mind, at times, what will tell give other the mirror of whom we are, that's why it's important to be cautious of how we talk and the things we say
