Here I stand at the dock, my face glimmers and my heart flutters,
I'm just a lovestruck wife, who've waited forever
For you my lover, a soldier, battling on a distant border.
Longing for the day you'd return to the lands of your mother..
Yearnings for your laughter and your touch.
Your memories linger like a bittersweet song.
Yearning for your warm embrace and your loving gaze.
For they're my heavenly place, my sacred space.
Rumours of the war's end reached my ears,
A glimmer of hope, to dissolve my fears,
I rejoiced that your return is so near.
I dressed in my finest, my best perfume I smeared.
At the dock soldiers disembarked, weary and light,
I waited but my beloved was yet to alight.
I searched but my husband was nowhere at sight.
Swiftly I lost my strength, I lost my might.
Has the ship brought me no solace, no embrace?,
Has it brought me only tears to adorn my weary face?,
We lost him, they said,
My heart broke, really it bled.
