Una caja permanecía olvidada,
entre varias ramas pardas;
hasta que se acerca una presencia rara
y la caja explora afanada.
Decide que se la quiere llevar
porque una gallina dibujada está,
esto le parece muy tierno, original
y atraviesa con ella la ciudad.
A box lay forgotten,
among several brown branches;
until a strange presence approached
and eagerly explored the box.
It decided it wanted to take it
because there was a drawing of a hen on it,
it found this very sweet and original,
and carried it across the city.
Llega hasta su hogar
y la deja sobre una mesa sin pensar,
cree que ahí segura estará
junto a unas galletas que cenará.
La presencia extraña se recuesta
y dormida se queda,
durante esta siesta,
la caja se va y se lleva una galleta.
It makes its way to her home
and sets it down on a table without a second thought,
thinking it will be safe there
next to some cookies she’ll have for dinner.
The strange presence lies down
and falls asleep,
and during this nap,
the box slips away and takes a cookie with it.
No sabemos dónde se quedó la caja
y apareció sola, la gallina afanada,
su galleta feliz llevaba,
le robó a quien quiso cuidarla.
Cuando el ser extraño se percató de la situación,
a buscar la caja salió;
pero, sin gallina la encontró
y comprendió que la engañaron sin aflicción.
We don't know where the box ended up,
and there she was, all on her own, the thieving hen,
carrying her happy cookie,
having stolen it from the one who wanted to take care of her.
When the stranger realized what had happened,
he went out to look for the box;
but when he found it without the hen,
he understood that he had been tricked, without any distress.
