Hi #hive friends I'm super excited to show you this illustration, it's the first time I draw someone in this pose, I'm super happy really, when I got the sketch I was super happy and excited. And well, I tell you that I collected data, I went to see references, I wrote down a lot of things. I want to tell you that in the end it didn't come out as I expected, it didn't have all the things I wrote down but that's what the process is all about, I recommend a lot that the ideas are released even if they are not going to be used in the final art. Brainstorming is a wonderful way to let ideas flow.

The Process

lluvia .jpg

This was my brainstorming, I will translate it for those who do not speak Spanish.

According to the references I saw, I wanted certain things.

  • Blue eyes
  • Rings
  • Stars on the sweater
  • Luminous butterflies
  • Dress
  • Long hair
  • Pearls
  • Dark skin
  • Shirt
  • Skirt
  • Long striped stockings
  • Converse
  • Stars in the hair
  • Makeup with stars on the face.

That's how the sketch came out and by that time I still thought I was going to have everything I had written on that list.
Fun fact: I love making lists for everything.

At this point, I took certain things and didn't manage to put everything I wanted in the illustration, some things I thought were better choices, for example the hair and the pants.

Starting lineart

Something that helped me to choose the color palette for this illustration, is that I already had a color selected from the last illustration and I thought it was a very nice color for the hair. From there I chose the other colors, it's an analogous palette. The placement of the stars was almost entirely improvised.
I usually paint everything in separate layers and then erase what is outside the lines.

I think that little by little I am improving the details, adding more and better ordering my work.

For the brightness of things, what I do is to copy, for example, the moon layer and blur that copy to give that magical glow effect.

Next I will show you how I make and blur the highlights and shadows. Sometimes I do more than one layer of shadows.
