And Friday afternoon surprises me with this beautiful sunset. From time to time we must take breaks, look at the sky, look at that bird wanting to steal the show among clouds and colors, and the sun beginning its majestic retreat, but it does so with every intention of leaving us with a beautiful taste in our mouths or eyes, all its colors in their maximum expression, a spectacle worthy of looking at and admiring, as if to change the perspective of what awaits us on the weekend.
We've just come through an exhausting week. Temperatures have risen, and the presence of El Niño or Super Niño is making itself felt. It sounds like a joke, but it's not. It's a very real and destructive climatic phenomenon that has come to alter our way of life. There's little rain, and without rain, crops are lost. Forest fires are increasing, and rationing has also increased; it's no longer four or five hours, but rather blocks of more than six continuous hours. Our electronic systems depend on hydroelectric dams, not to mention the stress caused by the excessive heat. El Niño is testing our mental, physical, and emotional resilience. I've read many news reports that we need to be prepared, using our natural resources responsibly. Our biggest problem is the constant power outages. For me, being prepared would mean having a generator at home so my workday isn't interrupted when there's no electricity, having fans, rechargeable light bulbs, and a strong mental fortitude to avoid falling into depression. It's not easy facing El Niño and its consequences. I don't think we'll solve it by saving water and turning off the lights. Venezuela isn't prepared. The government didn't make investments or carry out preventive or corrective maintenance to protect the power distribution lines and ensure a continuous supply. The population grew, infrastructure grew, and electricity consumption increased; everything accumulated, and we're paying the price. Will we get out of this someday? Who knows? Meanwhile°
I'm still enjoying my break, watching the sun bid farewell to the day, slowly, elegantly, amidst lights and colors...
