The torso and abdomen are covered with bright stripes arranged crosswise, most often yellow or orange, but also white and red. It has two pairs of transparent wings. He lives in colonies.

Tułów i odwłok pokrywają jaskrawe paski ułożone w poprzek, najczęściej w kolorze żółtym lub pomarańczowym, ale zdarzają się również białe i czerwone. Posiada dwie pary przezroczystych skrzydełek. A bumblebee has a sting and can sting severely in self-defense. It does not kill the insect like a wasp or a bee. Most people are clearly afraid of and avoid them. And for me, they are cute, meek, fat people :)
Charakterystycznym wyglądem oraz dźwiękiem, powodowanym przez drgania skrzydełek w czasie lotu zwraca na siebie powszechną uwagę, często ludzie błędnie nazywają go bąkiem (tak już jest z naszą wiedzą, jak coś jest duże i brzęczy, to na pewno bąk albo szerszeń i zaraz nas ugryzie!). Trzmiel posiada żądło i w obronie własnej potrafi dotkliwie użądlić. Nie powoduje to śmierci owada jak u osy czy pszczoły. Większość ludzi wyraźnie ich się boi i unika. A dla mnie to śliczne potulne grubaski :)

In our climate zone, they pollinate about 400 species of plants. The structure of the bumblebee enables it to pollinate narrowly built flowers that bees cannot get into. They owe it to their tongues, which are up to 24 mm long (bee tongues are only 6-7 mm). Bumblebees pollinate everything from plants in our gardens to orchards, as well as under foil, in greenhouses and tunnels. That is why bumblebee farming has been popular recently.
W Polsce występuje ok. 30, a na świecie jest to ponad 300 gatunków trzmieli. Te bardzo pożyteczne owady odgrywają ważną rolę w zapylaniu kwiatów. W naszym klimacie zapylają ponad 400 gatunków roślin. Budowie trzmiela umożliwia mu zapylanie kwiatów o wąskiej budowie, do których nie dostanie się pszczoła. Zawdzięczają to swoim językom, których długość dochodzi do 24 mm (pszczele języki mają tylko 6-7mm). Trzmiele zapylają wszystko, od roślin w naszych ogrodach, po sady, a także uprawy pod folią, w szklarniach tunelach. Dlatego też ostatnimi czasy popularna jest hodowla trzmieli.
