The Argentine Mate.png

Today I bring you a "tutorial" for those who would like to drink a mate and not die trying.
First I leave a little information:

HISTORY:

The origins are said to date back to the Guarani people who used the leaf as a beverage and currency.

CONSUMPTION:

In Argentina it is consumed 6.4kg per person on average per year. Its consumption is beneficial because it provides B vitamins, helps reduce bad cholesterol and triglycerides, has antioxidants and produces energizing effects.
It is an infusion that is prepared with mate leaves, as well as the container where it is prepared.

CULTURE:

It is a traditional infusion in Argentine homes, which according to Law 26.871 sanctioned on July 3, 2013 declared the mate as a national infusion, and on November 30 is celebrated the National Mate Day.

THE MATE TEAM

I present to you my humble mate kit:
On the left we have a container where I have the Yerba Mate and "burrito" (another flavoring leaf).
In the center we have the Mate (container) with its bombilla.
On the right the thermos, which has hot water but which should not boil.

YERBA MATEBURRITO LEAVES

PREPARATION

IMG_20221009_114908.jpgPlace the Yerba Mate in the Mate and place two small
spoonfuls of sugar, then place the palm of the hand
covering the top of it, turn it 180° and shake it so that with
this movement we remove the dust that brings and is the one that produces the bitterness (this dust is from the same leaf) and try to keep the yerba mate to one side.
IMG_20221009_115200.jpgThen we put the water in the lowest part
(in this case on the left side) avoiding to wet
all the yerba, this is done when it is losing flavor and getting wet in this sector and recover some of the lost flavor.
IMG_20221009_115301.jpgThen we place the bulb in the same
place where we poured the water.
IMG_20221009_115321.jpgAnd we enjoyed it !!!!, IMPORTANT:
I recommend not to drink the first
two mates, as they are the most bitter
or take them tasting and carefully because
they can be hot and you can get burned if you did
not control the water well. Once drunk, sugar
is added before adding the water.
As you drink more than one, the bitterness disappears and you can enjoy them even more..
