Recently I’ve had some experience with a friend who wanted to launch her company. I was excited for her! She’s been wanting to launch this company for quite sometime. I recently had invited her to come attend an event with me, but she said that she didn’t have time for “random shit”. I was a bit offended but blew it off.

A couple days later, I had talked to her and she told me that she hasn’t been able to close a deal. I told her that maybe it was because she was putting too much focus on the company and that she should take time to relax. Let what is meant to come, come. Let what is meant to leave, leave. She didn’t take my advice until one day she was really about to give up on her company. I told her to try what I had mentioned before and just see what happens. Needless to say, she ended up signing a small deal - her first small deal - after she stopped pressuring people for a week.

She then started to get even more “addicted to work” and her negative habits started to kick in and I barely saw her for a couple months. I found out that though she was signing deals, she was getting negative reviews and as time progressed, less and less people were wanting to sign with her.

From the outside looking in, I noticed so many things wrong. She would not put her ego down. She made work — work. She looked like she was constantly struggling and just numbing the pain of her personal life in her work and guess what? It showed in her work. Her work became less and less original and become more and more sloppy. She was also exhausted and rude to not only her customers, but her close friends who wanted to support her.

I know most of us are eager to get to the top of the success ladder. But one thing, I’ve learned from my friend was the idea of karma. What comes around will in fact come back around.

Though I love my friend, there are ways to talk to people and ways not to talk to people. She ended up being so rude to someone that was going to donate thousands of dollars, but she was rude to them. Later on that night, she found out who they were and kept apologizing... Needless to say, she did not get funding from that person and that person wrote negative reviews that went viral.

May this be a lesson for you all.

Be humble and be kind to people — you do not have to be rude to people while climbing the ladder of success. Remember, there is a right and wrong way to talk to people.

The most successful people are humble and are life long students who give love out to everyone. Look at Oprah, one of, if not, the richest woman alive, thanks not only the top staff in her life, but also everyone from the gardeners to the cooks. She LITERALLY thanks everyone. You don’t have to sell your soul to become rich. Nor do you have to be rude to become rich. Remember that one day, the person you are rude to, might be the next person that’s supposed fund your company.
