Do you know that life has it's way of presenting itself? Everyone struggle to find their place in life on different basis and duration and some people may never be what or who they want to be, Lord help me be the person I want to be.
It was 4pm at the school field during the inter school competition final match between my school "sumbay college" and Dominion college. The cheers of the crowd echoed through the wind as the rhythm of my name "Ebun" was all over the place, obvious enough that they came to watch me play. I was the captain of my school at the age of 15 and since I won the best dancer at the last end of the year party, I was called upon to represent in dance competitions and the gist about my achievements spread round peace estate community like a wild fire since my school was close to my house.
I am the first child of my parents followed by three others, one boy and two girls. My father was a security personnel at Eko hotel at suites while my mother trades fresh and roasted fish to support the family. They were proud of the boy I was and as their first child they support me in all i do because I was excelling in my academics as one of the best business and accounting students in the school. It was all traced to my name "Ebun-oluwa" which means Gift of God.
Everything was a blessing for me and my family not until my father received a call from work one Saturday morning and he rushed down to work as instructed but the story has never been the same since he came back that night. That was the first time I saw my father cry for 15 years, we were shocked and my mother was already in tears because that was unlike him so she knew something devastating must have happened. I joined the league too since I couldn't help it, father refuse to say a word that night and we all slept where we were sitting till the next morning.. Everyone woke up starring at father to say something before mother caught in despair asking "where you stopped from working and all he could do was to nod his head as tears rolled down his face only for mother to cuddle and embrace him..
After some days It was a question of how to survive on the penny he was paid off with, he decided to trade cement while mom has to increase her trade to support the family.. In no time it was a different scent, feeling and wind around my house and all I could do is to assist my parents with their trade.. It was easily perceived that I became different in school as I wasn't regular in school, dropped grades and I had no time for my usual activities.. This made me disheartening and heartbroken as I watched it all slipping away helplessly, then I remembered some discussions with my parents telling me that my education is the major way to success but I told them I wanted to be the next Ronaldinho or Michael Jackson which we all laughed about reaching a conclusion of being successful in whatever I do or become.
It was a struggle for my parents to cope with my fees and that of my siblings till I managed to leave college but I couldn't see myself near any of my dreams and that of my parent's and they were so disappointed that they fully couldn't fufil their responsibilities .I never gave up on my dreams so I had to pick up some jobs after college to assist myself and my parents but we couldn't afford my university education so I enrolled for cheaper college of education where I studied business education and to the glory of God I am now a graduate, an entrepreneur and a sport man.
I still do what I know how to do best, football, dance and fitness. Life really has its way of presenting it self though..
