For those who still believe that plants are not sentient beings like animals or humans, today I bring you one more proof that may help to change this erroneous thinking.
Hello dear community, today I return with my adventures scrutinizing the plants of my neighbor, who has a great variety in the common spaces, so although they are not mine, I still enjoy their company.
In recent days, I began to notice some particular behavior in a couple of flowering plants that, depending on the time I saw them, and the weather, would change their appearance.
Very early in the morning, the flowers were completely closed, but by midday they were in full bloom. By evening, however, they were closed again.
At first I thought they were short-cycle flowers that were only alive for one day, but the next day, the same flowers looked beautiful in the middle of the day, so my theory was discarded. Since they were closed at night, it was not because they had wilted.
With the changeable weather, even though it's already spring on this side of the world, the cold breeze just won't go away, so we're jumping between winter, fall and spring during the week.
We humans put on and take off our coats during the day, and of course the colds have not been long in coming. But what about the plants?
They too were happy with the arrival of spring, and began the cycle of blooming and enjoying the benefits of the warm weather.
Only that both they and we did not count on the weather, and they do not have coats to wear, so they must somehow find some way to protect themselves a little.
I must point out that not all have the same behavior, the roses, for example, remain open and are shedding by the effect of the strong breeze that passes and "undresses" them.
So these two friends, one pink and the other yellow, both with reddish centers, close to cover themselves from the cold and the strong wind during the night.
Particularly, they seem to behave like sunflowers, because when the days are cloudy, they do not fulfill the cycle of reopening, but remain closed, as when we are provoked to stay tucked up in bed.
I must confess that every time I am surprised how Mother Nature makes its manifestations in the plant kingdom able to survive, not only to humans, but also to other factors of the balance that must exist in the species.
It is a silent teaching that can only be absorbed by those of us who are aware of the details that are always present, but to which in many cases we do not pay attention.
Yesterday was an autumn day, and since the sun was not present, my colorful friends slept all day long. Today the forecast is a little more encouraging, let's hope that some rays will show up, so that both they and we can enjoy a friendlier weather, after 4 months of intense cold.
