In the midst of the debate between my mother's mind and common sense

Although it seems to be a catharsis, what I really want is to hear opinions about it, because no matter how hard I try to see it in a different way, everything leads me to the same conclusion: help him!.

In previous posts I have talked about my oldest son's rebelliousness since he started adolescence, and having my own rebelliousness as a reference, at times I don't know how to react with him.

I am an atypical and unorthodox mom, and I try to make for my children a more pleasant environment so that they feel free to experiment and trust me with their desires and concerns.

But long work days away from home, the confinement of the pandemic, the onset of adolescence and a separation from his father have wreaked havoc on my oldest son's behavior.

However, I consider myself to be a present mom, checking notebooks and sitting down with homework, ALWAYS asking how they are doing and making us all sit down at the table to eat as a family.

The thing is, with face-to-face classes again, my son has found himself in a scenario he doesn't like. He says that the teachers are good and accessible, as are his classmates, but he doesn't see the point of studying subjects that don't interest him.

Every week he has to sit down to talk to him, to give him advice. Even my mom does the same thing by whatsapp every time she can. After that he seems to react, but after two days, the same apathy returns.

I have even gone to his high school to talk to his guidance teacher, who tells me that everyone is in the same condition after the pandemic, and not to worry, because the teachers are placing the work and evaluations to deliver in the classroom, so there will be no homework, except for large projects.

That comforted me a little, until a week ago, when I received a note from the geography teacher, saying that Abraham must complete the classes and assignments in order to be evaluated and not lose the subject. And oh, surprise! his notebook is ALL incomplete!

However, she gives him time to catch up so he doesn't have to make up for vacation, but he refuses to do so. Being an emigrant, he says he doesn't feel the need to know about the geography of his new country of residence, and although I ask him to comply with the requirement, he ignores my words.

I have all the pages of his geography folder on the table, I have read the material and it really isn't complicated. But when I touch him on the subject, he turns away and there is no way to make him react, not even under duress!

Should I let him go through the experience of a summer class?

Here this process takes place right in the summer season, when it's too hot to leave the house because of the heat and the mosquitoes, so in addition to the unpleasant process of having to study after classes are over, we have to put up with the weather conditions.

Common sense tells me: let him! but my mommy mind tells me: help him! but how can I help him if he is not even willing to do his homework?

What do you advise me?
