When Christmas comes around, people always think about dinner, presents, family gatherings and, if possible, new clothes.... But those are not the only things to do during these special days.
Taking advantage of these days to take a break from the routine, get away from the noise or go somewhere new, may be a better idea than sitting in the living room of the family home, listening to the same stories repeated every year or doing what you always do on these dates.
Here are 3 suggestions that you can do alone or with company. Maybe they can turn out to be a new tradition for these days!
Travel to a new place
Although the holidays are high season, by planning your trip ahead of time you can find good prices to travel somewhere you don't know.
Celebrating Christmas doesn't necessarily have to mean staying in one place, and getting together with friends who are like family also brings rewards.

Getting to know the Christmas customs of other places in your own country or another nation will give you new memories to share later.
Work during the month
It may not be the best idea, but it is the most lucrative. If you have a business venture, or know how to make crafts, food, or last-minute gifts, December is the time to make some good money that will give you financial peace of mind and support in the first months of next year.
Investing a little to double the incentives of your formal job is a smart way to get dividends to buy good gifts or treat yourself outside of the holidays.
Staying home
In my case, Christmas always involved traveling to the family's house. It took us 4-5 hours to get to the aunts' house, and although as a kid it was exciting to get together with cousins and acquaintances, as a teenager I grew out of the excitement of going to do the same things I do every year.
Getting all dressed up and then sitting in the living room of grandma's house, listening to the same Christmas carols, watching my cousins and uncles fight and make up, among many other things that were already "tradition", was not my thing, although I am not a fan of going out dancing or anything like that.
So I thought I would stay home alone, while my parents and brother traveled. And it was the best Christmas I remember from that time. Watching TV until the wee hours of the morning, eating in pajamas, and sleeping without anyone disturbing the house, was the best.

The only bad thing was not being able to be at my mom's birthday (her birthday was on December 31), but I still welcomed her when they came home, with a cake made by me, so it didn't matter if we sang her birthday on the specific day of her birth.

Cuando de navidad se trata, la gente siempre piensa en la cena, los regalos, la reunión familiar y si se puede, los estrenos en ropa... Pero esas no son las únicas cosas que se pueden hacer estos días especiales.
Aprovechar estos días para descansar de la rutina, alejarse del ruido o conocer algún lugar nuevo, puede resultar una mejor idea que estar sentado en la sala de la casa familiar, escuchando los mismos cuentos repetidos todos los años o haciendo lo que siempre acostumbras en estas fechas.

Viajar a un nuevo lugar
Aunque las fechas decembrinas son temporada alta, planificando el viaje con tiempo puedes encontrar buenos precios para viajar a algún sitio que no conozcas.
Celebrar la navidad no necesariamente debe ser estar en un mismo lugar, y reunirse con amigos que son como familia, también trae gratificaciones.

Trabajar durante el mes
Puede que no sea la mejor idea, pero si la más lucrativa. Si tienes algún emprendimiento, o sabes hacer manualidades, comidas, o regalos de último momento, Diciembre es la fecha para hacerte de un buen dinero que te permita tener una tranquilidad financiera y un soporte en los primeros meses del siguiente año.
Invertir un poco para duplicar los incentivos de tu trabajo formal, es una manera inteligente lograr obtener dividendos para comprar buenos regalos o darte un gusto fuera de las fechas.
Quedarte en casa
En mi caso, las navidades siempre implicaban viajar a casa de la familia. Nos tomaba entre 4 y 5 horas llegar a casa de las tías, y aunque de niña era emocionante reunirse con los primos y conocidos, ya en la adolescencia se me pasó la emoción de ir a hacer las mismas cosas de todos los años.
Arreglarse tanto para luego quedar sentada en la sala de casa de la abuela, escuchar los mismos villancicos, ver como mis primos y tios se peleaban y reconciliaban, entre muchas otras cosas que ya eran "tradición", no era lo mio, aunque tampoco soy de salir a bailar ni nada parecido.
Entonces pensé en quedarme en casa sola, mientras mis padres y hermano viajaban. Y fueron las mejores navidades que recuerdo de aquella época. Ver TV hasta la madrugada, comer en pijamas, y dormir sin que nadie perturbara en la casa, fue lo máximo.

Lo único malo era no poder estar en el cumpleaños de mi mamá (ella cumple justo el 31 de diciembre), pero igual la recibía cuando regresaban a casa, con una torta hecha por mi, así que tampoco importaba si se le cantaba el cumpleaños el día específico de su nacimiento.
