I woke up around 01:20. Heard a strange sound. It was the cat. Standing in the second floor window ledge. Screaming! I thought it might be a badger or maybe a fox. I lifted her down and closed the window. Then I went downstairs to look out the front door. If you have heard it and smelled it once before you’ll instantly recognize it (that’s what she said).
I ran over while calling the fire department. 800 meters flat out sprint with a 12 kilo extinguisher in one hand, phone in the other. My interval training paid off!
Everybody got out. The nearest neighbour claimed he was a retired fireman and that he knew better than me what he had to do, goddammit!
Nobody had woken the other neighbour yet, so I got to be the one running full speed in to an old lady’s bedroom screaming and shouting wearing only shorts and running shoes. She asked if she should take her parrot with her. I said that she should probably decide for her self. She left it.
I went back to my house when the fire department and the police arrived. My wife told me to have a beer. And a shower.
Here she is. Napping. Now I know I can trust her in a crisis.
I know I’ve been rambling on in this post, but adrenalin is a helluva drug!!
