We love the mystery. Whether discovering strange planets or going to the bottom of the oceans, what is strange attracts us. But we often forget that on our planet still many riddles. Here is a top of the 5 most strange places and phenomena on Earth - and especially unexplained by science. Yes, even if one has more confidence in science than ever before, it is far from being infallible.

THE LIGHTS OF HESSDALEN, NORWAY

w_lumie-resdhessdalen.jpg

Observed by many amateurs, these funny unidentified flying objects are not the result of hallucinations due to excessive consumption of alcohol. The scientific community has validated their existence, without explaining them. Nevertheless a theory has been constructed to better define what they are. Located in the Hessdalen valley, these luminous halos could be generated by the environment itself. Composed of two layers of rocks of different compositions and separated by a river, this valley could be an autonomous battery. But it is only a theory, nothing has yet confirmed these assumptions. Maybe it's just the Asgardians who are having fun with us, poor mortals ...

SLEEP EPIDEMIC, KAZAKHSTAN

It has been several years since a small village in Kazakhstan knows a very strange evil. An epidemic of sleep seems to have contaminated all the inhabitants of Kalachi, in the northern part of the country. Apparently for no reason, people of all ages and physical conditions fell asleep unexpectedly and for long periods of time (up to 6 days of unconsciousness!) No medical solution was possible since no diagnosis could be made. The government decided to exile the residents and abandon the city. Scientists have seriously tackled the problem, but their most convincing solution is not viable. Their theory that locals were poisoned by the nearby uranium mine does not hold: another city is closer to this city, but had no sleep problems. And most importantly, the blood tests were absolutely normal. But maybe it's just a snowball effect: there was a person with a weird disease and the others took the opportunity not to assume to have run a Game of Thrones marathon in the night.

FAIRY'S CIRCLES, NAMIBIA

Large and well-drawn circles are rather rare in nature. So when a large amount of geometric shapes are found in the same geographical area, it is challenging. Theories flourished and in 2013, a scientist proudly announced that he had solved the issue. According to him, a kind of termite would be at the origin of all these holes. These "fairy circles" are actually mini oases for the survival of insects. Nice idea except that a biologist dismantled it shortly after its publication ... After all, there may be real fairies in the Namibian desert!

THE HURTS OF TAOS, USA

Do you know this unpleasant sensation of sound disturbance? When your television makes a very light noise, but annoying enough to break your head? Well, imagine hearing a similar sound all day long. That's what the people of Taos, a city in New Mexico in the United States, live. Similar cases had been detected in other places, but each time, the source of the signal was not far away. But in this case, nothing has been found after more than 20 years of research! Scientists, desperate to understand nothing, have assumed that the affected people are in fact mutants with a super-hearing who would hear what's going on in their minds. Soon a team of X-Men in real life?

THE KITCHEN OF THE DEVIL, USA

w_bouilloirediable-1.jpg
