The topic about paying children for doing chores has been ongoing. Many have had different views about it. Some argue that it teaches the value of money and responsibility, while others believe it may create an expectation of payment for every task. Well everyone with his own views and for a good reason, though every child is different so one thing might work for one and not the other.

In my own Opinion o, and from what I've been taught, children are expected to help out with chores at home. It shows that the child is a contributing member of the household to the best of his ability. I believe these children should be taught to help out without expecting to get paid or rewarded financially. It's true that occasional incentives or allowances can be a great motivator (though that's not the African thing) but the child should understand that it is his duty to help out with chores in the household without expecting to be paid.

Doing chores makes a child more responsible and better prepared for adulthood.

My parents knew the importance of that, it is not possible for you to even refuse any task or house chores, in fact we always have in mind that when you wake up in the morning you have to do house chores, that's what every African child is taught, the chores has even been named "Morning chores". It's always said, "if you wake up in the morning the first thing you need to do is, sweep and clean the house, wash the plates then go outside and fetch water" those are the basic chores for morning then be ready to run errands that come up during the day. Everyone has a part to play!

Most times you don't even get a Thank you, you never get it because they say you've just done what you need to do. The only time my mom said "Thank you" was to her Last child whom was her favorite he'd do a little thing at home and my mom will thank him and he'll still get some money to buy biscuits.

For me I believe that everyone should be appreciated, even if the person is doing his job, he should still be appreciated for doing it because not everyone takes their jobs seriously.

Today due to the training we received, we know how to do chores on our own without waiting to be reminded. Life is not very easy and anyone who was trained with financial rewards for simply doing house chores will not understand what the real world entails.

The debate about paying children for doing chores has its valid points on both sides. However, based on my personal experience and upbringing in an African household, I strongly believe that children should contribute to the household without expecting financial rewards. That way they'll become responsible adults and they'll understand the importance of contributing to the well-being of the family. Doing chores now will set children up for success and strong work ethic that will benefit them throughout their lives!
