I don't have many Twitter followers, and almost none of these followers are shown my tweets because of the site's feed manipulation algo. Facebook is worse. Its feed manipulation algo shows my posts to as few as zero of my friends. Today I started looking into buying fake Twitter followers in hopes of tricking their algorithm into showing my tweets to my real followers.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find a good place to buy Twitter followers. It turns out that companies that sell fake followers also saturate review sites with fake positive reviews, so it's impossible to determine the legitimacy of any of them. After checking out half a dozen of these sites, I learned that I could buy a thousand Twitter followers for as little as $25. But these followers might not actually show up, and if they did they were likely to be deleted quickly by the platform.
I already pay Twitter $8 a month. I'd be willing to make it an even $10 if the platform started showing my tweets to my followers. It's sad, I know. I have to have a presence there for professional reasons. The site has been a garbage fire since Elon Musk got his hands on it, yet it's the site a lot of people use.
As I mentioned, Facebook is worse. Earlier this year, I ran several paid ad campaigns to promote my science fiction books. A hundred bucks got me two website visits. My numbers would have been better if these ads were simply shown to all of my followers.
One reason I love Hive is that it has no secret feed manipulation algorithm. My followers here see what I post, and I see everything posted by the people I follow. If I want, I can see a feed ranked by a transparent voting process. Nothing here is censored, though it can be hidden by popular vote.
I do wish more people knew about Hive. Especially now, in the post-covid media landscape. It's less generic than Medium and offers a better post editing experience than Substack. I tell everyone about Hive but not everyone listens.
Does anyone know where I can buy Twitter followers for HBD? I'm only half kidding. And I'm frustrated that so many people use centralized social media exclusively. The companies suck and the people supporting these companies are disappointing. Of course, not every user has a choice. In some parts of the world, Facebook is the only internet people know.
One thing that occurs to me involves the trend by mainstream platforms to require increasingly intrusive identity verification from their users. At some point, they may begin requiring government ID for account verification. When that happens, Hive's signup process may start looking relatively more attractive. This would sure make onboarding easier.
