Last night I dreamed of people from my past involved in mundane events. The only reason this dream is worth mentioning is how it ended. I was considering everything and came to a realization. I realized that the physical world was ephemeral, despite all of its apparent solidity.
Upon waking, I understood that thoughts and feelings were more real and lasting in some sense than material reality was. In my mind's eye, I saw how quickly a million Earthly years pass in the context of cosmic timelines, and how at the same time every product of our lives was forever crystallized in a timeless layer of existence.
The whole thing was mildly psychedelic and I didn't feel rested when it was over. I merely felt like going back to bed, but couldn't because I had work to do. So all day I've been thinking about how cosmically brief our lives are. The idea is neither comforting nor disturbing, though it seems somehow important.
Having just completed The 321 Incident, I've been trying to generate AI cover art. The image above is the best one so far, and it's not great. Fortunately I have over 700 credits at NightCafe, so I can experiment until my heart is content.
There was great progress on a new book video today. I'm totally excited about that project, and plan to showcase it on the dedicated author website that I'm currently wrestling with. There are many little tasks to complete before I can put that together. Writing copy. Finding images. Looking at templates and imagining user experiences.
I've made dozens of websites over the years and at some point I realized that I didn't really like doing it. The last several webpages I've made were done from scratch, which I did enjoy, but the author site will be done using a managed service, which will save time but not be as fun. I mean, the end result should be fun enough. And the site will serve as a central location on the web for people to find my books.
Once I've fully conceptualized the new author site, the rest should fall into place. At the moment, I don't yet know exactly how it should look. I don't even know what font to use. Impact titles and courier text is my goto, but is that right for this project? Maybe not.
Soon enough, I'll get to the part I like. The part where everything comes together and works okay. I'd like to reach that point by the end of the year, but realistically that may not be possible. And maybe that's for the best.
