There's always been politics
people with varying views,
rivals facing off --
different sides to choose…
some form or another
people being lead,
debate among elders
seeking out the tribal head.
a way to decide
our best foot forward,
not some ring --
where people get slaughtered.
backing a party
supporting a cause,
maybe get lucky
and change a few laws.
where someone will win
another lose,
a system set up
that's too easy to abuse.
lying and cheating
to get their way,
what's in it for me
is how it's played today.
assuming your vote
is theirs to take,
never coming through
on the promises they make.
lying to your face
like their lives are at stake,
and you can bet your ass
all those tans are fake.
the honor and integrity
necessary to succeed,
shamelessly conceded
at an alarming speed.
either way you look at it
it falls a little short --
once you start treating
politics as sport!
