Almost every day I keep seeing plenty of caterpillars crawling about, I guess there will be a lot of butterflies in this and next generation :) In the past three days I encountered these three that I just had to photograph, especially because it's the first time I saw this species.
I was walking the dog through the forest when I glanced something strange on a fallen leaf, and upon a closer look I still had no idea what it was. It does resemble some of the clutter found on the forest floor, but my immediate feeling was it's an animal. It's in fact a caterpillar of sorts that I've never seen before in my life and I have no idea where it came from. It does seem to have a fluffy mohawk, but I wasn't sure about the spikes at the sides and the tail, so I rather left it alone :)
But I got a surprise the next day. When I was picking walnuts I also accidentally picked up one of these from the tree :) Somehow it got on my hand and I didn't even notice it at first. It looks to be more of a baby one and those spikes aren't spiky at all. It didn't want to leave so I had to persuade it and it didn't even bite me :) I wonder into what butterflies these turn into.
And for the end a different one, at the beginning of the week I almost walked over this one. These are more constant residents, though this one seems to have lost it's bearings a bit, walking on concrete.
The caterpillar does all the work but the butterfly gets all the publicity
