Staying away from your pet can feel a little isolating especially when you start to develop feelings for them. My relationship with Shiro wasn’t really easy but eventually my family and I made it work. He became the sweetest cat I’ve ever known and he did not act aggressively after a couple of weeks. I know that people told us to throw him away but of course, we couldn’t let him go. When I left, the only thing that bothered me was that I couldn’t take him with me.
He liked the car rides whenever we went to the vet and for grooming. I am sure that he’d love the plane ride and also walk around places. I wasn’t just sure to bring him on flights not to mention, it will also come with extra expenses and also travelling with a pet can be challenging as well. Perhaps one day with more money, I could take him to places as well. There are days when I missed him and the only way I could see him was through video calls and sometimes I went to cat’s cafe to also see cats that looked like him.
Then, sometimes I would ask my mom to take pictures of Shiro. My mom told me that they couldn’t bring them to grooming because it was just so challenging for them to make him get into the travel box. They told me that I could only be the one who brought him to the vet and grooming. It could also be my mom’s way to make me come home but either way, it’s just really sad that he couldn’t have his regular grooming and vet just because I wasn’t there. As you see above, his fur needed some trimming here and there.
I heard that he’s also been eating a lot more and sometimes, he finishes almost 1.5kg of food in a week which seems quite concerning to me. That is because I was afraid he got fatter and obese. He also looks pretty bored from the pictures that my mom sent. I think he felt less bored when whenever I am around that is because I would bring him to walk and just go out for a car drive. I would also give him delicious treats every week.
In another story, when I was in Laos, I hung out with a pregnant cat that looked pretty malnourished with a huge belly. When I was there, she would come out and eat with me. I always bought an extra chicken for her and I was actually afraid if the hostel owner sort of threw her away somewhere. But apparently, they let her roam around and during dinner time, she would accompany me eating and I would always buy a three portion meal as it’s not only for me but also for that cat. Playing around with that cat sort of helped me when I missed Shiro. After that cat got full, she would fall asleep next to me and purring, showing that she's content.
I don’t know when I’ll be home but certainly, the only thing that made me want to come back home is Shiro. Friends have suggested that I bring my cat around but I am sure, it’s gonna be a lot more complicated and finding property that is pet friendly is also pretty challenging. But it’s honestly not a bad idea. Anything is definitely possible if I really want it.
