If you want to know the challenge I am doing in October, check out my previous post on why I am doing this challenge. Can you survive on a college budget?

Day 2

My phone lighted up as I saw a notification. A message from a community service colleague. It was once in a blue moon I got a text other than from my mom or my partner. I have been isolating myself from socialization about two or three years now, I lost count. The point is, he asked me out to a downtown bar. Normally, my reaction would be " let's go!" but this time, I am trying to be upfront saying " no". I think with my current budget challenge, spending 5$ won't do. I probably ended up spending more than 20$ alone in a night out. So, yeah I decline the offer politely.

Today, I am thinking about the coffee shop and how I badly miss it. I have my own coffee but trust me, they taste different. I am probably buying the atmosphere but it is going to make me miss the coffee shop even more.

My housemate just got back from her family place. She visited my room to have a small chit-chat and I told her about the challenge I am doing. The first thing she said to me was, " You are kidding me!"

She could not believe I could live with 5$ a week as she saw me constantly buying a take away which is not cheap. But then, she proceed on telling me how to actually live off with less. She mentioned all the brands that I could buy like noodles and cereals which were a better deal than what I am currently consuming. She told me about how she was struggling and it was not one of the best days in her life. As of now, she's doing quite alright.

Having a little budget makes me aware that I normally spend 3$ in the morning, 5$ for lunch and extra 3$ for dinner which according to my friend was quite a lot. To my surprise, she budget herself 10000 idr which is less than 1$ to eat a day. I tried this before but really, I always exceed my budget. So, my housemate advice was greatly appreciated because if she can survive, why can't I? Mac
