2026 seems to be the most turbulent year that one experience these days for a lot of reasons. We had covid 6 years ago and that alone feels crushing when you think about.

What have we achieved these past 6 years?

I wonder if some of us still feels like we're stuck in Covid times. Maybe some of us has moved past it and now a changed person. But for some reason, politics, the global economy, everything is in shambles. The only good thing that we perhaps experience is emerging AI that now sounds like a threat itself. But what's next?

As an older Gen Z, I was born in times of crisis and grew up in between major changes in the world. And life for many of us felt like one crisis after another. In 1997 to 1998, we've seen Asia Financial Crisis and in Indonesia itself, it was the year that redefined the country for the past 29 years.

Then we grew up in transition from computer to all things portable, the education system that keeps changing, and the policies that keeps re-adjusting every 4 years term. Soon, we experience covid, another global crisis that redefined our mid 20's and now, in our late 20's as a late Gen Z, we see political turmoil everywhere and the uncertainty of this world.

The only difference this time is that, I am old enough to see the pattern and weave through it all. At least I get the rough idea who'll be rich after the crisis, how to survive it, and how to stay sane when things get bad as well as planning an exit strategy.

If these past 6 years you're fortunate enough to save up, this is the time to spend on property as many people are selling their property and business even under the current market price if they desperately need money. This is such a land grab opportunity.

If you don't have money, this is time to lower the lifestyle. This is time to build and be careful with every resources we have, whether energy, time or money. Be really good at saying no. This was my mistake after 2020 that I was in a period of working hard but then I have no understanding that it's all a cycle so I justify every spending I had under the pretense of " I want to make my family happy" and "escape the family". But rather creating an actual exit strategy, I sink deeper into something that you see now.

When you genuinely understand your life cycle, no matter how bad it gets for you, you'll come to an understanding that each of us has a cycle and so does the world around us. While the goal is not to eliminate all the cycles, the older I get, the more I realized, we're part of these cycles and through each of these, we need to learn something that help us stands on more solid grounds next time the crisis comes.

Maybe this is just natural as you get older, you start to notice these things. But it's good to have self-awareness. These days we have social media that bombard us with seemingly "instant" or overnight success. We just don't realize, their life has gone through cycle too. Even those who born with silver spoon goes through cycle, the difference is their baseline and problems.

And once you remove those algorithmic distraction, the clearer it gets for you to see the bigger picture of yourself and even those around you that you know well. Then act according even when it feels like the world is burning to the ground.
