Greetings, last week I had to make a silver plate that had to be engraved with some initials, the client of the plate belongs to my mother who has a mini jewelry store and he has always bought from her for many years now, I I do the parts and certain repairs. It was a job that I had to do suddenly and for that reason I apologize in advance for some photos that do not have the quality that I like to show, I will also show you the process starting with the list of things that I used:

👍 0.6mm silver foil and 0.7mm silver wire and silver solder

👍 Borax as a flux and acid for jewelry

👍 Jewelry files, sandpaper number 220, 360 and 400.

👍 Jewelry tweezers.

👍 Bar stick.

👍Dremel

👍 Bench engine, cotton cloth disc and polishing wax.

👍 Some other things you can name in the description of the processes.

Steps:

1

This is 0.6mm thick silver foil, measurements are 3.4 x 2.8cm. I asked for it that way in the store that provides me with the money.

2

With a 0.7 mm thick silver wire I made a ring to weld on the plate, to make this ring I used a conical or round tip jewelry pliers.

3

Apply borax to the area to be soldered, so they know borax is a flux that helps the casting and soldering process, so cut a quarter of the silver solder and with the flame of the heat torch and spread the solder to gather the hoop and silver plate.

4

Then file the areas where there is excess weld, then the corners to round them, finally go through different grits of sandpaper numbers 220, 360 and 400.

5

It is time to make the pin for the chain, as I was not very sure, I made the silhouette on paper, but I think in the future I should make some templates, since I made a mistake of making it larger than necessary, the silver sheet that use for this is approximately 0.5 mm. Stick the paper with a glue stick.

#6

This is the chain pin already cut and shaped, for the cut I used an arch saw and the 2/0 saw, as the area that I cut first I did not like it was very wide, I reduced the dimensions by redrawing and making the cuts with the Same blade, I also ate some of the material with the file. The doubles or shape I made with the circumference of a large round jewelry pliers that I have.

#7

Finish shaping the pin with a normal round plier, to later weld, it is the same process as when the ring was welded, but with greater care so as not to damage or loosen the ring that was previously welded.

#8

I dipped the plate in a specialized jewelry acid to remove the scorch from the piece, then take out and pass 220, 360 and 400 sandpaper, so that it remains as seen in the photo.

#9

This is what it looks like after polishing on the bench motor, with the cotton cloth disc and polishing wax. At the time of the photo, it was going to be sent to be recorded with a pantograph.

This is the result after recording, although the photo was not quite right.
