After so long, I have decided to publish this special piece in this beloved community: a moon ornamented with a Celtic triqueta. It was the request of a client who wanted this figure; She gave me some reference images she had, but the moon ornaments were complex and I had to design it from scratch on my computer using the Inkscape app. From there I also worked on the size and prepared the file to print. Below I show you a screenshot of the design from the application.
Once the size has been defined and the sheet has been printed, it is time to make the piece, for which I used the following tools and materials:
0.7mm brass sheet and 1mm copper wire.Segueta arch and 3/0 saws or saws for metal.Glue on bar.Files and sandpaper numbers 220, 360 and 400.Dremel and milling cutter to open 0.8 mm gaps.Bench motor, polishing discs and wax for polishing jewelry.Jewelry tweezers.Wooden stuffer.
For now, that's what I remember using. Before telling you about the process, I tell you that this piece does not have such a high difficulty for me, but it takes time due to the number of internal drafts that must be made. That is the real challenge. I also warn that, because my cell phone was half unruly and it was difficult for me to upload the step-by-step images one by one, I decided to make a collage with the sequence (which you can see from left to right), and below I will relate the process with some than another explanation.
PASO A PASO / STEP BY STEP
Choice of material: I chose a 0.7 mm brass sheet cutout that in my opinion fit perfectly, since having a medium size would allow me to work comfortably, quickly and focused.
Metal preparation: I sanded the sheet with 220 sandpaper to remove grease and dirt from the material and thus allow better adhesion. I placed the stick stick on the metal surface and glued the design print.
Internal draft: With the Dremel and the 0.8 mm cutter, I began to drill holes in the internal spaces to make the cuts. I opened a few and started using the saw bow with the 3/0 saw to advance some internal parts. Then I continued making holes and making holes. This step is a bit tedious and time-consuming; If you don't stay calm and confident in the process, it can be very stressful.
Exterior cut: Once the internal cuts were completed, I proceeded to cut the exterior contour of the piece with the saw, a step that is faster and more fluid.
Removal of the template: The paper is removed from the metal. This can be removed manually, but the ideal is to immerse the piece in water to remove it easily.
Retouching and profiling: The pendant is exposed, but the imperfections of the internal and external draft are noticeable. It's time to take the saw again to patiently correct the internal cuts. On the outside it is ground with the file or with stone or diamond cutters for the Dremel, wearing down those imperfections until satisfied, accepting that artisanal work always leaves small signs of the process, since we are humans and not machines.
Sanding and embedding: I sanded the piece in sequence with 220, 360 and 400 sandpaper. Then I took the wooden stuffer (which is a die with concavities) and with its wooden stuffer I hit it to give it a concave shape. I like to give it that volume to make it look more interesting and guarantee greater firmness. After this process, I ground again by sanding the surface with 400 sandpaper.
Polishing: I prepared to polish; I used a piece of leather to avoid burning or hurting my hands from friction when polishing and a thin wire to hold the piece and prevent it from flying away. I polished the bench motor using cotton cloth mops and the polishing wax bar.
Making the ring: I made a ring with the conical jewelry clip (with a round tip), cut it with the saw and placed it with the flat clip.
Making the ring: I made a ring with the conical jewelry clip (with a round tip), cut it with the saw and placed it with the flat clip.
Final Finish: I sent the finished piece to be silver plated. Once I received it with the finish, I added a drawstring with an adjustable slip knot to make it comfortable to wear.
