Ventured down to the ol’ wooden dock, right up to the edge of the shore
Peered out over the lily-covered pond, for a glimpse of what the waterfront had in store
There I saw visions of the future, liberated memories from the past
But the premonition I failed to notice, were the characteristics that I lack
You only get one lifetime, with opportunities to get it right
Beware though of constant failure, brings about a terrible plight
If there was an allusion to be found, buried somewhere deep in mud
Covered over by years of storms, carried away by incessant floods
It would be those rickety planks, they bear more resemblance than we see
Awaiting their inevitable fate- to rot away & sink to the bottom of the sea
