¿Volveremos a vernos?

Sometimes the best way to cope with emotions is to write, getting everything off my chest and draining with every word. It is strange to imagine what life would be like if I had been born in a normal country. I can remember my childhood, even my teenage years and get an idea of what it would all be like, however, there is one part of life that I will never know what it is like and that is the one that hurts me the most.

I know that following your path and letting go of the past is a natural and beneficial process, but it feels so strange to always miss so many people, so many moments, so many places, people who had to leave because they had to and not because they wanted to. I have lost count of all the painful farewells I have had to make to those who have had to leave in search of a better future; today there are not so many who leave for other latitudes and I am grateful for that, I am also grateful to have met new people who vibrate in my tune, but it always hurts when another leaves, it hurts as if it were the first.

What will it feel like to grow up surrounded by most of the people you love and who have been part of your life? What will it feel like to live without a constant feeling of longing? What would life be like if emigrating had been an option and not an obligation? I wonder these things from time to time, I think we all do, at least all of us who miss someone who left or those who stayed.

Today I said goodbye to my best friend, who fought countless battles with me, gave me great learning, the best food dishes you can imagine and a long list of good, not so good and funny anecdotes too. Today another little piece of my heart flies to another part of the world, full of dreams and goals, sad for the life he leaves behind, but happy to be reunited with the rest of his family, as he was the only one still living in Venezuela.

There are so many stories like this one, and even though it has been maybe 10 years since the first time I had to say goodbye to someone, it still hurts. Will we see each other again? Of course we will, sometime or other as life brings us together, of that I have no doubt, the only thing I wonder is, will I see you all again?
