My Answer:
This truly depends on the kind of person you are. It may be the best thing ever for you, very freeing and eye-opening, or it might be lonely, scary, and perhaps even dangerous.
I am personally someone who prefers to travel alone when it is for a shorter period of time, and thus I feel like I can answer this question quite well.
Whenever I travel, I don’t make plans to visit any specific places or complete any certain tasks, most of the time, and this gives me more flexibility, freedom, space, and an overall lack of stress whilst travelling. Your mind can get too clogged up with a plethora of things you wish to do or see all at once, and more often than not, you end up worrying more than enjoying yhe moment, and end up not paying proper attention to what’s around you. Taking it slow, enjoying the moment and going with the flow of the place you are in is key.
As for the journey, plane flights alone are fine. You tend to talk to people around you anyway, or sleep. So this part of your travel is always okay.
Not knowing the language of the place you are visiting and being on your own is a slight disadvantage, but with today’s technology and our ability to translate anything into any language on our phones, if done properly, this shouldn’t cause too many problems.
I could go on about other aspects of travelling, but the real answer here is that it’s always different for everyone. There are fundamental truths that apply for most of us who travel alone, but really, you just have to go and do it, with an open mind and an optimist mindset of course, and see for yourself.
Happy travelling! ✈️
PS: If you wish to see a blog (a poem and photographs) from my trip to Liverpool alone yesterday, you can check it out here, and it might give you a slight glimpse into what it is like.
