I am currently in my second job in three months—actually, my second job ever—but I am not here to talk about my own situation, but rather that of a coworker.
Esto suena irreal: él se retiró de la empresa y ¡No me van a creer cuánto le pagó la empresa por su labor durante todo un año en el cual estuvo trabajando en forma alternativa semanas de trabajo diurno con otras de trabajo nocturno!
This sounds unreal: he left the company, and you won't believe how much they paid him for his work over the course of a full year—during which he alternated between weeks of day shifts and weeks of night shifts!
El pago por todo ese tiempo - el "arreglo" como le decimos en Venezuela fue de solo 600 bolívares. Para que se hagan ideas del por qué de mi indignación les diré que hoy un dólar equivale a bolívares 848,55. Eso significa que 600 bolívares equivalen a 0,70$, o sea, apenas 70 céntimos de dólar . Eso le alcanza para comprar dos panes canillas y ya.

Imagino que si va al Ministerio del Trabajo y denuncia obligan a la empresa a pagar lo que dejaron en6 su bolsillo. Pero esto es sol mi imaginación, me comentan que no es así. Que lamentableme
nte no es así. Y sigue fuerte el sentimiento de impotencia.

That means 600 bolivars is equivalent to $0.70—barely 70 US cents. That’s enough to buy two canilla loaves of bread, and that’s it.

I imagine that if one went to the Ministry of Labor and filed a complaint, the company would be forced to pay what they withheld. But that’s just my imagination; I’m told that’s not how it works. That, unfortunately, is not the case. And the feeling of powerlessness remains strong.
