She sprang out of her bed, how could she not have heard the alarm ring? Sophia rushed out of her room to get her chores done. With a stepmum like hers Sophia knew she was in for it afterall, she had dared to wake up late. Who wouldn't when she barely had three hours to sleep after working so hard the previous day.
She scurried to the kitchen only to see her stepmum fuming like she was about to bring down the house. Sophia greeted her but received a resounding slap as a response. She should be used to this by now but no, it stung so bad. How she missed her mum, she thought to herself.
Get to work! She barked snapping Sophia out of her deep thought and walked out, leaving Sophia to her chores.
How she managed to complete her chores after so many hours had gone by with the ache she felt in her body was a mystery to her. She went back to her room and brought out her flute from where she had kept it. It was the last gift from her mum. Oh! How she cherished it, this was one things she was never willing to part with. She started playing one of her favourite songs...this was the only time she found her refuge.
