If incentive is the human engine of progress...lets incentivize humans!
Incentives are the engine behind human action.
What the incentives are to each person, are different for any individual or group of individuals.
Financial, spiritual, political...you get the idea.
I claim to not know anyone's incentives, irrelevant of what they say.
People are hypocrites.
People lie, and no one truly knows the heart of another, no matter how much wishful thinking one projects onto any individual in the hope that they are correct.
This is not being negative, it's merely an understanding and acceptance of the human psyche.
So, with that in mind, and taken from a perspective that incentive is the engine to propel everything forwards for the individual, and by extension, group of individuals, I ask a simple question...
Are disincentives toxic?
The answer is no.
Not all disincentives are toxic, and can be quite the opposite.
Common law, after all, is based on disincentives.
Punishment for stealing, fraud, cheating, breaking contracts etc are all disincentives designed to keep society functioning within a moral and ethical framework.
That being said, they can also be toxic. Look at socialism.
It's all about the context.
Take the poison dwarf and the down vote attack on everything that I receive an upvote for, for example.
Posts or comments, it makes no difference.
It's across the board, and on every subject.
Is this a disincentive for me to post or comment?
No, is the short answer. (It has the opposite effect).
It has the opposite effect on me, simply because I have the luxury of the 'financially punitive' aspects not really affecting me, with the added bonus (incentive), to highlight bullies, leftism, and highlighting the actions of what being a small minded dick, looks like.
(to help others to be able recognize it for themselves in the future).
Plus it gives me a chance to highlight what is wrong with the DPOS system of governance.
So take my incentives out of the equation.
The poison dwarf has driven people away with the childish vindictive behaviors (mostly on ideological/personal grounds).
If the incentive to down vote is ideologically driven, and then backed up by a 'financial punishment' to smaller accounts - we have a big problem.
Not only will it prevent hive from growing by welcoming all spectrum's of beliefs and opinions, with people wanting to speak their truth,- it will create a culture of 'might is right'.
As exists in reality of the DPOS system right now.
While this may sound like heaven on earth for the authoritarian sheep, it is not conducive to healthy growth for the platform, and certainly not as attractive for free thinkers.
These are the very people we need on a platform to make it attractive.The free thinkers of today create the space for 'the herd' tomorrow.
Leftism is dying (thank fuck) and people are waking up and starting to think for themselves. This herd will be leaving the building soon, and for generations to come.
The cultural zeitgeist is shifting away from the last decades of bribery indoctrination.
This will only continue to gather pace, as economies contract and life gets harder.
** either that, or we will be seeing full blown communism - in which case, this platform only has a limited time span anyway, there ain't no way around it.(steem, anyone?)
So where does this leave Hive?
It has to be either all encompassing for everyone, or it has to take a position.
'Taking a position' is not a place for hive to occupy.
It is a platform, not an opinion.
How then, can you make it 'all encompassing', while at the same time, allow vindictive behavior to profit accounts?
(DPOS, automation, and the reward pool, allows this).
You do it by making people work...
I have some ideas....
This is not about me and the poison dwarf, it is about the system.
One way to mitigate a lot of parasitical, (and non productive) use of the platform would be to take steps to make the system manual, and not automated.
(the poison dwarf exploits this automation for example, and just farms curation rewards incessantly).
Imagine if there was a capthca system employed, so as to cast a vote of any kind would require effort?
Now, most lefty commie retards will object to having to work for anything, I realize this - but those who are not afraid of having to put in little effort for reward, it would pose no problem.
(laziness is part and parcel of lefty authoritarian sheep. A 'something for nothing' mentality).
The long term effects of using the captcha system, would create an incentive to participate, knowing that the lazy were at a dis advantage
And these types of people are the very people that we need to attract to hive, for long term growth.

NOT the technocratic parasites who think automation to avoid any actual effort, is a good thing. (lazy fuckers).
Automation is the thin end of a wedge towards centralizing power.
For a platform that supposedly promotes and endorses decentralization, the CAPTCHA system seems an obvious - and very natural - fit, to the whole hive ethos.
DE-automating the system would be revolutionary act in a world that seems intent on doing the exact opposite (by the powers that be).
With the cultural shift that's coming down the road in society, this could make hive the front runner.
