Greetings!
Punishment to me is the best form of corrections in the whole wide world. Although there's been a series of criticisms against punishment, I will not lie to us, there's no society that can exist without punishment. Bring or tell me about a society that has ever existed without a punishment, then, I will tell you there's none.
Without punishment, the society will be full of chaos and danger and this is because, when there's no punishment, people will just be doing whatever they like as they already know that nothing will be done to them even if they commit their greatest crime. However, once there's a punishment in place, there will be orderliness in the society as people would have known that there's a penalty to whatever wrong or crime they are trying to perpetuate.
Having talked so much about punishment and its effect on the people and their society, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt which is all about, "punishment" in the Hive learners community.
One thing I want us to know is that, wherever there's rules and regulations there will be punishment and it's this punishment of a thing that can make the society a safe place for all.
To me, the effect of punishment in our society has not lost its value and objectives. Although, it's like people are committing more crimes even with the punishment measures being put into place. Yeah, that might be the truth of the matter, but one thing thing I have seen overtime is that, many that have been known as criminals have now become a better person due to the punishment being metted out to them. Some of them have been jailed and it was during the process of them being put into the correctional center that they became a new person and by the virtue of this, turned a new leaf.
However, I have equally seen another set of criminals that came back from the prison and became more notorious. Well to me it's not their fault as some of our correctional system are not in place to correct, but to hardened the mind of the criminals the more and this is because, the way the accused were being treated in those places has nothing to do with corrections and it's from those places that dreadful gang were being formed to terrorize the people the more whenever they are released from the prison.
Also, the effect of punishment has been diminished due to our judicial system. When the judicial system is being corrupted, then, the effect of the punishment being pronounced by the judiciary would not be as effective as it ought to be. This happens when judgments are being brought and also, when the offenders are being set free of his offense and those that are not guilty are being punished for the offense they know nothing about.
In conclusion, there's nothing wrong with punishment as it would always be effective as it should only if the system itself is not tampered with.
