Warmest greetings all. I hope you are well and in good spirits even as we are face these challenging times. Let us all be hopeful for the better.
I'm excited to be here again to share some thoughts with you and I would be talking about procrastination and some ways to prevent it.
Naturally, human beings tend to believe that there is always, and that which should have been done at the moment will be shifted to some other time, which may not come again.
This is procrastination.
Simply put, Procrastination has to do with putting off things one intends doing now for the later.
These examples explain it further
I need to to write an article, but I will do it later..
I need to water the flowers but I will do it later...
Later, Later Later.....
As all these tasks, chores, assignments, projects are being pushed to later list, it will come to a time when the list will be so full that it becomes so overwhelming for one to complete and that's where the problem starts. In a bid to complete most of them within the limited time available, confusion, mistakes, anxiety, stress and the likes will set in.
One can also break down in the process.
There is no doubt that everyone of us do procrastinate sometimes, and there are some areas it happens often but is that okay?
No, I do not think that it is okay to procrastinate because it can make one miss completing important tasks and even less productive, although some people may think otherwise.
As we know, procrastination isn't what one really plans to do, sometimes it happens due to some reasons like;
- Fear and anxiety,
- Personal problems like emotional, financial, health etc.
- Poor time management,
- Difficulty in concentration especially when the environment isn't favorable or noisy.
- When the task is boring
- When the task to be done isn't well understood etc.
Since we've know some of the reason people procrastinate, are there ways it can be prevented?
Definitely, there are several ways to go about it but generally it requires discipline and being able to make conscious effort to stopping it.
Let's look at some of the ways;
Write down the tasks, chores, projects, etc that you intend doing and mark the dates of each in a calendar either wall or desk calendar or in a diary.
Ensure that you understand clearly what the supposed task is all about before starting. It is unwise to start doing something you have no idea about.
If the task is a large one, try breaking it into small steps, and strictly following it step by step. This will reduce the feeling of "I can't do it, it is much or beyond me"
Try prioritizing tasks. The most urgent ones or the ones with the closet deadline should be done first, that way you do not have to feel rushed.
Take a break when you feel like you have overworked the brain or you aren't concentrating again so you don't make mistakes along the way. If possible, take a nap, walk around or exercise to ease off and relax.
Keep away from things that may distract you while doing a task. Focus on the task.
Do not forget to commend, celebrate and reward yourself whenever you finish completing a task, in any way you feel like. That way you are motivated to do more. That's the beauty of #freecompliments.
Again do not forget to alway remind and say encouraging words to yourself like "I can and will do it. No task is too difficult to complete"
Lastly, ensure that you eat healthy foods including getting enough sleep.
The body needs enough sleep and healthy food to function well, do not deprive it that.
Final Note
You will agree with me that there's every need to do away with procrastination because it doesn't help at all rather it is the killer of time.
As the saying goes "time waits for no man" so one shouldn't wait for a perfect time to be able to complete a task because that time may never come. Take advantage of the time you have now and put it into good use.
Thank you for visiting my blog and I do hope that you found value in this article.
