He didn't love many people. Not that he hated them, or didn't care about them, that was not the case, there was just this thin line between indifference towards them, and minding his business, and not theirs. Strange, you may say, but it worked for him, and kept him safe. Most of the time it was hard to tell if he had crossed the line with someone, but just when he'd begin to worry about it, he would go back to his default setting, minding his business.
He had a profound knowledge of love, because he knew of someone whose mere existence, was the definition of love itself. This being loved him endlessly, and the knowledge of that, often made him question the viability of the love that others proclaimed.
The being who loved him, knew everything about him, the good, the bad, and the ugly, yet, the love didn't waver at any point. He knew that he was loved in this manner, and because he did, he could be himself in the presence of this being, as in his absence. something which didn't really matter, with this being. The fact that, he didn't have to make an impression, pretend to be someone he's not, or meet an expectation, to earn that love, was mind boggling to him, and he discovered that he was in love with the love this being had for him.
Humans, on the other hand, were different, and difficult to deal with. They had different expectations from whomever they came in contact with, and that, somehow placed everyone in their good or bad book. They chattered incessantly about love, something they didn't even understand, and because they didn't, they misused, misplaced, and abused it, until it became a cliché.

In Love, there's happiness and comfort in being one's self, and staying true to one's self. So, if someone has to pretend around you, or they do not have the freedom to be themselves, they know that you do not love them in the way that you should. They know that you do not truly love them.
On this note, you might wanna have another talk with yourself, on the subject of Love. Ask yourself questions, and honestly answer them.
